THHN / THWN Wire Production Line

What is a THHN / THWN wire production line? It turns prepared copper conductors into PVC-insulated wire with a nylon covering. Form strands first when needed, then apply PVC and nylon, cool and dry the wire, inspect it and wind it to the agreed format.

Strand count is not the number of insulated cable cores. Specify the conductor as n × d mm: n is the number of individual wires and d is each wire’s diameter. Also confirm the finished bare-conductor diameter and nominal cross-section. Form the strands before insulation, or start with an approved ready-stranded conductor.
03 Preliminary process route

Match the Route to the Conductor Construction

This route illustrates single-core copper wire with PVC insulation and a nylon covering. Individual wires need forming; approved solid or ready-stranded conductors enter the PVC and nylon extrusion route.

Prepare wires if needed → Bunch / strand → PVC insulation / colour stripe → Nylon covering → Cool / dry → Inspect / mark → Take up Confirm n × d, lay, bare-conductor diameter and resistance. Drawing / annealing and retail coiling / packing remain separate scope if required.
Typical process / not a fixed layout

Read the order, not a fixed machine spacing: conductor forming precedes PVC insulation and nylon covering. Feed, preheating and straightening are inside the extrusion package, not a separate process card. Surface drying precedes spark testing. Cooling, marking, gauges and accumulators follow the approved layout; a continuous mechanical link from buncher to extruder is not assumed.

Clarify the Route Before Requesting a Quote

These answers explain the decision path. They do not replace an approved cable design, technical solution, quotation or project proposal.

What equipment is included in the preliminary THHN / THWN Wire route?

The two references cover a Φ800 buncher and a Φ70+50+40 extrusion package. The extrusion list includes conductor entry and preheating, PVC insulation with optional colour striping, nylon covering, cooling and drying, diameter measurement, laser marking, spark testing, capstan, accumulators and shaftless take-up. Drawing / annealing and retail coiling / packing need separate scope confirmation.

Are drawing, annealing and bunching always required?

No. Approved solid and ready-stranded conductors bypass bunching. Individual wires must be formed before insulation. Drawing or annealing is upstream scope only where incoming size or condition requires it, and is not included in the two supplied packages. Confirm n × d, conductor class, lay, bare OD and resistance.

What do the Φ70, Φ50 and Φ40 extruders do?

The Φ70 extruder provides the main PVC insulation. The Φ50 vertical unit provides the optional colour stripe. The separate Φ40 extruder applies nylon covering over the PVC-insulated conductor. These are not three interchangeable material layers.

What insulation materials can the line process?

This page reviews PVC insulation plus a nylon covering, using approved grades and tooling. Confirm both layer thicknesses, processing windows and nylon drying requirements. Other materials require a separate process review. A machine specification does not establish finished-wire THHN / THWN or THWN-2 qualification.

Can one line cover several conductor sizes?

Confirm the complete operating range before quotation. The buncher reference lists 2.5–16 mm² while the conductor preheater lists 0.3–3 mm OD. Check the actual bare-conductor diameter against every interface. The capstan’s 500 m/min maximum and individual extruder output ratings are not promised finished-wire production figures.

What testing and coiling equipment is included?

Diameter measurement, laser marking, length counting and a spark tester are listed as separate functions. Dry the wire before spark testing and agree the method and voltage. The listed Φ800–1000 shaftless take-up collects reels; retail coiling, cutting, tying and wrapping are separate scope. Finished-wire qualification requires the applicable product tests.

What information is required before quotation?

Provide the required designation, AWG or mm², conductor construction, n × d, finished bare-conductor diameter, PVC and nylon grades and thicknesses, finished OD, colour / stripe, target output, incoming and finished reels, factory conditions and acceptance requirements. Unknown values may remain To be confirmed.

Does HONGKAI provide installation and training?

Installation, commissioning and training are proposal-defined services. Scope, equipment source, responsibilities, site readiness, schedule and exclusions must be confirmed for the project.
