تُستخدم خيوط حجب المياه من FIBER في الهواتف الضوئية والنحاسية وكابلات البيانات وكابلات الطاقة كمكونات للكابلات. تُستخدم الخيوط كمواد حشو في كابلات الطاقة لتوفير كتلة ضغط أولية ولمنع دخول الماء وانتقاله في كابلات الألياف الضوئية. عندما يدخل الماء إلى كابل محمي بخيوط مانعة للماء، فإن المكون فائق الامتصاص داخل الخيوط يشكل على الفور جلًا مانعًا للماء. سوف ينتفخ الخيط إلى ما يقرب من ثلاثة أضعاف حجمه الجاف.
